Most of the courses in the CCRS catalog (i.e., pre-approved PDUs from REPs) are either not free or provide only 1 or 2 PDUs, which is fine but possibly not worth the trouble of signing up for.

The company offering my two favorite free online courses for earning PDUs (see Scrum Fundamentals and Six Sigma Yellow Belt certificates below) is no longer a PMI Registered Education Provider (REP). I’ve taken these courses to renew my own PMP and I would still recommend them (assuming they haven’t changed  too much) as they are good quick overviews of an interesting topic with a quiz at the end. But since they are no longer pre-approved by PMI, it can take a bit more time for them to be approved.

The benefit of claiming course/online media PDUs from a REP is that the PDUs are pre-approved. However, in my experience, submitting PDU claims from a non-REP source might only take a day or two longer before the claim is approved.

The following courses are currently still listed in the CCRS catalog, but since the provider is no longer a REP, you must enter the provider and course information manually if claiming PDUs for these courses. Don’t select these non-REP courses from the drop-down menus (which list both active and retired REP courses) otherwise PMI will reject them saying that the courses are retired:

• Six Sigma Yellow Belt from 6 Sigma Study (click here to look up the retired course’s PDU breakdown on PMI’s CCRS)
• Scrum Fundamentals Certified from PMstudy (click here to look up the retired course’s PDU breakdown on PMI’s CCRS)
